Complete sonatas for obbligato harpsichord and violin Stéphanie-Marie Degand, Violaine Cochard

Informations

As soon as they met at the Paris Conservatory, Stéphanie-Marie Degand and Violaine Cochard developed a musical bond: the Six sonatas for obbligato harpsichord and violin by J.S. Bach quickly emerged as their preferred repertoire.

These works (with the exception of the sixth) are inspired by Corelli, on the model of the sonata da chiesa – alternating four slow-fast-slow-fast movements – but Bach mixes the rigours of Northern German counterpoint with Italian cantabile (which would inspire him his whole life to create a unique lyrical polyphony), alternating with fast movements, nearly all of them fugues.

This is a record thats celebrates thirty years of a marvellous friendship and a shared passion for music.
