Formed in 2015, the Akos Quartet currently consists of Alexis Gomez, Aya Murakami (violin), Katya Polin (viola) and Cyrielle Golin (cello). Inspired by the exhibition “The Revolutionary Bow” in London in 2015 (historical bows from 1750 to 1830) directed by Jérôme Akoka, the Quartet proposes since its beginnings varied concert programmes on classical or modern bows depending on the repertoire approached. The Akos Quartet has already performed in numerous concert halls and festivals such as the Konzerthaus Berlin, Schloss Nymphenburg München, Academy of Athens, Festival Format Raisins, Festival Flam’, Le Chant de la Rive, Les Musicales de Ristolas, Matinée Musicale d’Arles… and appears occasionally in the radio programme “Générations France Musique, le live” presented by Clément Rochefort. The Akos Quartet won the 3rd Prize and the Bärenreiter Prize at the 13th International Mozart Competition at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 2018, and the Adolfo Betti Prize – best string quartet – at the International Virtuoso e Belcanto Competition in Lucca in 2020.
In 2019, the Quartet became a laureate of the King Baudoin Foundation-Fravanni Fund. It also won the 2016 Ensemble Revelation Prize at the Château de La Roche-Guyon Masterclass. Eager to transmit the art and more particularly that of the string quartet to new generations, the Akos Quartet is at the initiative of many diversified school projects ranging from a multi-year partnership with a kindergarten/primary school in the Doubs region of France to conferences for musicology students in universities. The Quartet draws its inspiration, benefits from advice and collaborates with great chamber musicians such as Luc-Marie Aguera, Jérôme Akoka, Leonidas Kavakos, Gustav Rivinius, Claire Thirion, The Belcea Quartet, Chiaroscuro Quartet, Quatuor Mosaïques, Quatuor Ysaÿe…
