The Orchestre des Pays de Savoie is a professional
chamber orchestra of 23 permanent musicians,
under the musical direction of Pieter-Jelle de Boer
since September 2021. It was established in 1984
with the support of the Savoie and Haute-Savoie
départements, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region,
and the French Ministry of Culture. It has been led
by Patrice Fontanarosa, Tibor Varga, Mark Foster,
Graziella Contratto, and Nicolas Chalvin.
The Orchestre des Pays de Savoie is a member
of the national network of permanent regional
orchestras. The ensemble designs and develops
a range of concerts for a variety of audiences,
touring throughout the year in Savoie, Haute-
Savoie, the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region,
France and abroad. The Orchestre des Pays de
Savoie presents 80 concerts each year, thereby
disseminating information about its activities
throughout the region.
It forms partnerships with cultural players
(associations, festivals, national venues, etc.),
local authorities and the business community
in order to achieve this. Since its inception,
the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie has been
dedicated to fostering an appreciation for
classical music among diverse audiences.
This is achieved through a multitude of
performances in educational institutions,
academic settings, healthcare facilities,
correctional facilities, and retirement
communities.
The Orchestre des Pays de Savoie is supported by the
Conseil Départemental de la Haute-Savoie, the Conseil
Départemental de la Savoie, the Ministère de la Culture
RAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes), the Région Auvergne-Rhône-
Alpes and by its Amadeus Corporate Patrons Club.
