A graduate of the Conservatoire de musique de Montréal and former member of the Opera Studio of the Opéra National du Rhin Kimy McLaren was a prize-winner at the International Mozart Competition in Salzburg in 2002 and at the Mario Lanza Competition in Italy in 2003.
Her repertoire includes: Mendelssohn’s Elias, Chausson’s Poème de l’Amour et de la Mer, Shostakovich’s Romances, Mahler’s Fourth Symphony, Poulenc’s Stabat Mater, Berg’s Sieben frühe Lieder and Wolf’s Italienisches Liederbuch, having appeared with such esteemed orchestras as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra – Charles Dutoit and Kent Nagano, the Orchestre Métropolitain and Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the Malaysian Philhamony, the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, I Musici de Montréal, the Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse, the Orchestre philharmonique de Marseille, the Orchestre philharmonique de Freiburg and the Wiener Kammer Orchester.
At the Opéra National du Rhin, Ms. Mc Laren performed the Nymph in Les Boréades, Sesto in Gluck’s La Clemenza di Tito, Ortlinde in Die Walküre, Wellgunde Götterdämmerung and Ninfa in Orfeo, which also performed in Lille, Caen and at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. Ms. McLaren has also been heard as Nadia in The Merry Widow, l’Infante in Le Cid and Octavie in Massenet’s Cléopâtre in Marseille, Leïla in The Pearl Fishers in Toulon, Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni in Mexico, Governess in Turn of the Screw in Rouen, Marguerite in Faust in Metz, Marzelline in Fidelio and Belinda in Dido and Aeneas at the Opéra national de Bordeaux, first Lady in Zauberflöte in Avignon, Armande in Alexandre Bis in Montréal, the title role in La Belle Hélène in Montpellier, the Composer in Ariadne auf Naxos, Marie in Wozzeck, and in Respighi’s Lucrezia.
