A music graaduate from Cambridge University, Ben Glassberg studied conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London.

He was only 23 years old when he won the Grand Prize of the 55th Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors in 2017, awarded by a jury chaired by Leonard Slatkin. He also won the two special prizes: the Audience Prize and the “coup de coeur de l’orchestre” from the Orchestre national de Lyon, which took part in the final. The ONL was then keen to accompany the young English conductor in the development of this promising career. After a series of first concerts, it created for him the title of “associate guest conductor”, which has translated into a close collaboration since 2019/2020.

It was in December 2018, during a concert with an all-Russian programme, that the prodigy conductor and the Rouen Normandy Opera Orchestra met. They performed Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony and Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto with Andrei Korobeïnikov. Ben Glassberg was appointed Music Director of the Rouen Normandy Opera Orchestra in 2020. He is also Principal Guest Conductor of the Vienna Volksoper.

From 2019 to 2021, Ben Glassberg was Principal Conductor of Glyndebourne Touring Opera. In addition, he has worked with the Royal London Philharmonic Orchestra, Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, St Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra. On stage, he has conducted the Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy and a new production of Benjamin Britten’s The Turn of the Screw at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie (Brussels).
