Since 2017, Nicole Corti has served as the
artistic director of the professional choir
Spirito, Vocal Art Centre – national program.
She is committed to promoting the choir
as a valuable and effective environment for
individual development in the pursuit of artistic
excellence and continuous improvement.
Having been trained as an orchestra conductor
by Sergiu Celibidache, Pierre Dervaux, and
Julius Kalmar, and as a choir conductor by
Bernard Tétu, the author has also received

exceptional teaching from ethnomusicologist
Yvette Grimaud and composer Raffi
Ourgandjian, as well as flutist André Pépin.
The intersection of these foundational
contributions has resulted in a significant aspect
of his artistic style: emphasising the connection
between traditional and learned elements, as
well as the vocal styles of the past and present.
At Notre-Dame-de-Paris, in 1993, she was
entrusted with the deployment of the new
Maîtrise system. Here, she discovered the
profession of church musician, responding
to Cardinal Lustiger’s request for coherence
between music and liturgy at the highest level.
In this emblematic place of the influence
of the École Notre-Dame, she reserved an
important place for the practice of Gregorian
chant and medieval polyphony led by Sylvain
Dieudonné, choirmaster and researcher.
Once again, the proposal is to compare
the Cathedral’s memorial repertoire with
contemporary creations, both in the liturgical
setting and in concerts. An innovative and
comprehensive training programme for
young singers up to professional training
will be designed for the choir school
by an experienced teaching team.
In 2006, Nicole Corti succeeded Bernard Tétu
at the CNSMD in Lyon, where she had been a
student, then an assistant, before finally taking
up the post of professor of choral conducting.
Nicole Corti was awarded the Choral Prize
twice by the Bettencourt Foundation, first with
the Maîtrise Notre-Dame in 2002 and then
with the Britten Choir in 2010. In 2002, she
was awarded the Chevalier title in the Ordre
National du Mérite. She was then promoted to
Officer in 2022 and received the Chevalier title
in the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres in 2015.
