Passionate about the rediscovery of forgotten or unknown scores in a repertoire that spans from 17th century music to contemporary works, the French baritone Pierre-Yves Pruvot has, in short order, become an artist greatly called-upon for numerous projects around the world, as well as recording premieres. His vocal and dramatic qualities are particularly sought-after for French and Italian lyrical works of the 19th and 20th centuries: the premiere in Germany of Franco Faccio’s Amleto; the premiere in Russia of Debussy’s opera Rodrigue et Chimène with the Saint Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra; the title role of Milhaud’s Bolivar with the Orquesta Sinfónica Simón Bolívar in Caracas; Mascagni’s Iris in Trieste under Nello Santi; as well as new versions of Meyerbeer’s Vasco da Gama (L’Africaine) in Chemnitz; Johann Christian Bach’s Amadis de Gaule in Prague; Kreutzer’s La Mort d’Abel at the Opéra royal de Versailles; Cherubini’s Lodoïska at the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, la Fenice in Venice and at the Parco della Musica in Rome; Salieri’s Falstaff under Jean-Claude Malgoire and Hummel’s Mathilde de Guise in Bratislava. The major roles of the Italian and German repertoires now make up the majority of his engagements. Pierre-Yves Pruvot is a winner of the s’Hertogenbosch (1998), Paris (1999) and Reine Elisabeth (2000) international competitions. He is the founder of the publishing company Symétrie (Lyon).
