Created in 2005 and directed by Jérémie Rhorer, Le Cercle de l’Harmonie – an orchestra on period instruments – explores the natural connections between so-called Classical and Romantic repertoires. Covering a century of music, the orchestra carries out a veritable recreation work, which places the composer and their writing at the center of the project so that the music can be heard in its original compositional gesture, without the weight of tradition and the influences of the different interpretations that may have been added over time.

United by the certainty that the use of the instruments for which the composers wrote and conceived their works will allow them to regain their authenticity and their spirit, Jérémie Rhorer and the musicians champion the intimate relationship between text and musical texture.

Trained in the largest conservatories dedicated to playing on period instruments – such as The Hague, Basel or Paris – the musicians of Le Cercle de l’Harmonie are heirs to the interpretation revolution initiated in the mid-twentieth century by the great theorists Nikolaus Harnoncourt and Gustav Leonhardt.
