Thomas Savy successively received a First Prize in classical clarinet at the regional Paris Conservatoire and a First Prize in jazz at the Paris Conservatoire.

In parallel to his activity in jazz orchestras, he has participated in contemporary and electronic music projects (INA GRM, Radio France, Zend Avesta, Arnaud Rebotini, Vincent Artaud). 

A multi-instrumentalist (saxophones, clarinets), he best expresses his personality through bass clarinet. 

His double interest in contemporary music and jazz make Thomas Savy a musician comfortable in the most modern of contexts: Christophe Dal Sasso’s nonet and big band, Raphaël Imbert’s NINE SPIRIT, Pierrick Pédron’s sextet, Pierre de Bethmann’s VINTAGE  ORCHESTRA and MEDIUM ENSEMBLE, Fabien Mary’s octet, Guillaume de Chassy’s trio SILENCES and quartet BRIDGES, Amy Gamlen’s quintet and others.

The albums in which he has been a band leader have been warmly received by the press: a ‘ffff’ rating from Télérama, a ‘Choc’ award from Jazz Magazine/Jazzman, a Jazznews selection, praise from Le Monde, a nomination Victoires du Jazz, etc.

French Suite, recorded in New York with Scott Colley (bass) and Bill Stewart (drums), made a mark, as well as the two volumes of Archipels.

On the classical scene, Thomas Savy has recorded Schubert with the singer Natalie Dessay and the pianist Philippe Cassard, as well as Prokofiev and Eisler with the singer Laurent Naouri.
